SentrX Animal Care to Showcase New Adhesion Prevention Film
ORLANDO, FL - SentrX Animal Care, Inc., a leading provider of innovative veterinary care for horses and companion animals, will showcase new adhesion prevention film for the equine market at the AAEP 53rd Annual Convention in Orlando. The new product is specifically designed to prevent adhesions in horses' tendons and abdominal area.
SentrX equitrXtm Adhesion Prevention Film is available in various sizes as appropriate solutions for different post-surgical adhesion problems, in particular tendon, neural and abdominal. Very large sheets are manufactured specifically for the equine abdominal surgery adhesion problems and can be used to isolate organ tissues from one another or from the walls of the body cavity. Medium-size sheets are particularly suited for use in intestinal resection surgeries and will eliminate subsequent adhesion of the intestine.
In April 2006, Dr. Alan Nixon, a well-known equine orthopedic surgeon at Cornell University, and Dr. Ben Schachter at Wellington Equine, Wellington, FL, operated on a racehorse named Balloo to repair a fractured splint bone. While the bone repair was successful, Balloo developed a tendon adhesion that prevented normal locomotion. In September, a second surgery was performed to surgically free the tendon adhesion and SentrX's equitrX biodegradable anti-adhesion film was inserted to prevent reformation of the original adhesion. One month later, Balloo was walking normally, ultrasound showed the adhesion to be absent, and Balloo successfully competed in the winter of 2006-07. For further information and/or images of this case study, please visit www.sentrxanimalcare.com/case_studies.html.
"In addition to the Balloo case, the SentrX equitrX Adhesion Prevention Film has been successfully used in several other animal models to surgically remove tendon adhesions that impaired mobility. The film has been successfully used to prevent neural adhesions in dogs in laminectomy operations by veterinarians at a major eastern vet school," said Dr. Richard Koehn, president and CEO of SentrX Animal Care. "Our products are scientifically developed in clinical settings, easy to apply, affordable, and proven to speed healing."
In addition, the SentrX equitrX Adhesion Prevention Film is totally biocompatible and non-allergenic. The film is also biodegradable so that adhesion protection is provided in the early stages of tissue healing but will biodegrade after a few days.
